Stroke continues to be a major disease within black communities. African-American men between the ages of 35-54 years have 4x greater risk of stroke than any other race. Find out more about this disease and other neurological diseases affecting black people in our neurology page.

World AIDS day in December was a special opportunity to focus our attention on this issue. The theme was leadership. A good leader must have the heart of a servant, being proactive and inclusive. This is needed at all levels in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Our upcoming HIV/AIDS page will address the role of leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS, as well as present medical facts on this condition. Finally we will address human rights issues in relation to HIV/AIDS.

Although our organization prefers and will try to avoid having banner adverts on our website, we may have to do so on occasion, to allow us to maintain and expand this website. If we run adverts on this website, Black Health Matters will do our best to ensure, we only advertise products, individuals and corporations who meet the ethical standards of Black Health Matters.

Black Health Matters is an organization founded by black professionals currently residing in the UK and North America. Our main mission is to educate and empower black health care consumers around the world. We strive for excellence and integrity in educating black people about health issues affecting our communities.

In the beginning…
a concept was brought forth, about the need to educate and empower black health care consumers. The main challenge was making this into a reality. Our office was the lounge of a one-bedroom apartment. Articles were written during late evenings, after the normal 9am-5pm work schedule and at weekends.

Then there was…
the launch of the Black Health Matters website, with articles on skin diseases. Although, our office remains the lounge of a one-bedroom flat, we have recruited more volunteer writers and have an upcoming neurology page in the pipeline. Given our exceptionally humble beginnings, we have come a long way. We are now looking at obtaining non-profit/charitable status in the UK and in North America. We continue to be dedicated to our mission and are fulfilling our goals on a daily basis. These are still small steps on a great journey, borne out of the need to serve the black community.

We could not have come this far without…
the many individuals who have helped in the development and advancement of Black Health Matters. This includes medical and non-medical professionals of the black community in Africa, North America and England. All individuals who dedicated their time in support of Black Health Matters are passionate about the need to give back to their communities. They realize that supporting our community is the only way that we can progress and rid ourselves of a wide range of health disparities. In doing this, we not only improve the black community, but also the whole of society. We will shortly be adding a new page to this website, where we introduce our readers to all our writers, including links to their own personal and/or organizational websites.

We can only continue on our journey…
with your support. Users of Black Health Matters can help in several ways:
