Baby Wipes Recalled

A possible bacteria contamination has led to a voluntary recall

Ten brands of baby wipes sold at stores nationwide, including Walgreens, Family Dollar, Sam’s Club and Diapers.com, are being voluntarily recalled due to possible bacteria contamination. Baby wipes sold before October 21, 2014, under the brand names Cuties, Diapers.com, Femtex, Fred’s, Kidgets, Member’s Mark, Simply Right, Sunny Smiles, Tender Touch and Well Beginnings are included in the recall.

“After receiving a small number of complaints of odor and discoloration, Nutek conducted microbial testing that showed the presence of the bacteria Burkholderia cepacia (B. cepacia), in some of these products,” Nutek Disposables said in a release. “B. cepacia poses little medical risk to healthy people. However, people who have certain health problems like weakened immune systems or chronic lung diseases, particularly cystic fibrosis, may be more susceptible to infections with B. cepacia.”

The company urged people with any of the conditions who may have used the wipes to contact their physician. Those who have purchased the wipes can return them to point of purchase for a full refund. For more information, call Nutek at (855) 646-4351 Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET.
