Aisha Tyler Discusses Infertility in Her 40s

Tyra Banks and Chrissy Teigen also reveal struggles with getting pregnant

Actress/talk show host Aisha Tyler is opening up about the negative stigma of being childless in her 40s.

During a recent episode of “The Talk,” the 45-year-old “Friends” star weighed in on Gabrielle Union, Tyra Banks, Chrissy Teigen and other celebrities who have recently revealed their struggles with becoming pregnant.

“I was with someone at 19 and I was married at 23 and I didn’t want kids when I was in my 20s. I wasn’t mentally prepared to take care of them, I was focused on my career,” Tyler said. “Then when I got to be in my 40s and I thought about having kids, I wasn’t able to have kids naturally. I don’t regret it. These were my choices and I don’t regret them. I won’t apologize for choosing my career over kids.”

This comes just days after Teigen opened up about her own battle with infertility during an episode of FABLife. “I will say, honestly, John and I are having trouble,” Teigen said, and she went on to talk about having visited fertility specialists. “We would have kids five, six years ago if it’d happened. But my gosh, it’s been a process!”

Banks agreed, saying that she was also tired of that question.

“I am so tired of seeing on my social media, ‘Why don’t you have kids?’” she said. “‘Why don’t you have kids?’ You don’t know. You don’t know what I’m going through. When I was 23 years old, I used to tell myself, ‘In three years I’m gonna have kids.’ Then I turned 24. ‘In three years I’m gonna have kids.’ Then just every single year I kept saying that. And then, after a while, it’s, like, ‘OK, now I want to, and it’s not so easy.’”
